Citi Bike For All

Citi Bike has made an impact in New York City -- every day it moves more people than the entire fleet of green cabs. The program has made bicycling more accessible in the city and has provided an additional cost-effective means of transportation.

Unfortunately, Citi Bike does not serve all New Yorkers. While there has been considerable expansion in 2017, no current plans exist for expansion to the Bronx, Staten Island, and huge areas of Brooklyn and Queens.

Mayor de Blasio is in the final stages of negotiating this year’s budget. What’s missing is money to ensure full expansion for this safe, healthy transportation program to all five boroughs.

With just 0.01% percentage of the budget, we can improve the commuting options of more than six million people who will benefit from high quality bikeshare in their neighborhoods.

We demand public funding in order provide an equitable, high quality bike share that every New Yorker can access.

There is widespread support for Citi Bike expansion: Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito has proposed $12 million for bike-share expansion, along with 34 City Council Members have signed on in support of the program. Bronx Borough President Ruben Díaz, Jr. and Staten Island Borough President James Oddo have also advocated for Citi Bike expansion to their boroughs.
