Extend Park Ave Bike Lane to Webster Ave

Cyclists commute every day along Webster Avenue from large communities in Williamsbridge, Allerton, and Norwood to the major Metro North connection at Fordham Road (which, unlike other stops in the area, connects to both the New Haven and Harlem lines).

Traffic on the street runs very fast, and cyclists are frequently pushed into the street's dedicated bus lanes to avoid passing traffic. On both sides of the street, the bus lanes abut lengthy parking areas which expose cyclists to risk of collisions from car doors and parking/decamping vehicles.

A dedicated bike lane on both sides of Webster Avenue would increase cyclist safety while extending the reach of existing infrastructure by connecting existing lanes on Park Avenue south of Fordham Road to the Mosholu-Pelham Greenway near Botanical Garden.

The nascent cycling infrastructure in the Bronx primarily runs north-to-south (in the South Bronx) and east-to-west (in the East Bronx). A protected bicycle lane on Webster Avenue would connect these two systems while giving cyclists in several neighborhoods safe access to the major Metro North station at Fordham Road, the Mosholu-Pelham Greenway through and around Bronx Park, and the Harlem Line Metro North stops at Botanical Garden and Williams Bridge.
