Safer Access to the Harlem River Bridges

Residents and community leaders of Inwood, Washington Heights, Harlem, and the Bronx are working to modernize and improve safety and accessibility features on area bridges. Tens of thousands of people use these connectors on a daily basis. For far too long, proposals for life-saving infrastructure improvements have been ignored. We need protected bike lanes, pedestrian amenities, and other safety improvements on our bridges, to better connect our neighborhoods.

I call on you to work with DOT, local community groups, and other stakeholders to advocate for safe access to the bridges of Northern Manhattan and the Bronx. Ensuring linkage between the communities of Northern Manhattan and the Bronx will promote healthy lifestyles, community interaction, commercial connectivity, and will ensure transportation equity across the boroughs.
